The Male Menopause

Male Menopause - Could You Be Suffering

It’s not often spoken about. It’s rarely mentioned in the media. Most men wouldn’t know how to start discussing the problem, or be willing to recognise that it exists. The male menopause is real though, and affects around 1 in 10 men. It can have a severe effect on a man’s physical, sexual, and emotional health.

The cause of the male menopause (also known as andropause) is due to a change in hormone levels as you get older, the same as in women. In men it can start at around 40 years old, although it can also affect men in their 30s and 40s. Your testosterone levels start to gradually drop. Male menopause and low testosterone levels not the same thing, though. Male menopause is characterised by the drop in testosterone and the associated symptoms. Low testosterone is simply a condition in which testosterone levels are below the normal range. It is perfectly possible for you to have low testosterone levels and not suffer from the symptoms of male menopause.
